Sources of particles in air

Key Points | Report Card | Technical Information | Data

In the Waikato region, vehicles, home heating and industry are the main sources of air pollution. This indicator estimates the proportions of particles (PM10) going into the air from each of these sources. Particles can affect people’s health by causing respiratory problems. They affect our environment by reducing visibility.

This indicator shows that:

  • In Hamilton, Tokoroa, Taupo, Te Kuiti, Waihi, Matamata, Putaruru, Ngaruawahia, Te Awamutu and Turangi most PM10 comes from domestic heating such as home fires.
